Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival
A prestigious display of documentary film with a special emphasis on work emanating from Central Europe. This is the only festival of its kind in Europe. The biggest festival for docs in Central Europe explores the term „documentary film“ to its very borders. From the time of its inception a basic feature of the festival has been dialogue, integral parts of which are the critical reflections on the films in the post-screening discussions with the filmmakers, and the accompanying festival publications – the catalogue of film titles, the documentary film anthology “DO”, and the festival daily “Dok Revue”. The aim is to create an open, playful and reflective film festival with a choice selection of films and a unique face, remaining faithful to its motto: “THINKING THROUGH FILM!” The festival has also long been the most important venue for Eastern European documentary filmmakers, the film industry, and journalists, offering them, in cooperation with the Institute of Documentary Film, a broad selection of workshops and seminars, and organizing the East European Pitching Forum, a meeting between Eastern European filmmakers and representatives of Western European TV stations – the only such opportunity in Eastern Europe. Evidence of the long-term intensive cooperation between the festival and the film industry is the second annual East Silver Documentary Film Market, which was a great success at the festival last year.
